I started my TTouch journey in October 1996 when I attended a TTouch Training Weekend at a local Worcestershire livery yard. I had searched for more holistic help with my home-bred horse’s behaviour, I was unwilling to use American trainers’ round pen method that was becoming popular in the UK I then happened to see Linda Tellington-Jones’ demonstration of TTouch with horses at Stoneleigh and knew that was how I wanted to work with and help horses and other animals.
I qualified as a TTouch Horse Practitioner in 1999 at a week’s clinic in British Columbia with Robyn Hood and then as a Practitioner 1 in 2009, I joined the Companion Animal Training programme in 2002 qualifying as a Practitioner 3 in May 2020.
Since 2010 I have run a Kennel Club Listed Dog training club for Greyhounds and Lurchers where I use TTouch constantly there and also in my retirement career as an IMDT (Institute of Modern Dog Trainers) Trainer and Behaviourist. I work with two national and international Greyhound and Lurcher rescue organisations, I contact their adopters to ensure their new hound is settling into their new life and offer help and advice usually including TTouch. I also work with local National Greyhound charities and give free training sessions to their new adopters or offer more involved Behavioural support and I have helped write the IMDT’s Greyhound and lurcher guidance for use by IMDT members when working with Sighthounds.
I am owned currently by two retired racing Greyhounds and a 28 year old delinquent Welsh cross pony who was my thoroughbred’s companion for 17 years until I lost her in 2023. I compete with my dogs, I have done Kennel Club Obedience with my rescue lurchers qualifying for national Obedience semi-finals and my last Greyhound was the first one to be placed in KC Obedience competitions. To demonstrate what Greyhounds can do mine have also competed at Rally O and Obreedience and have tried Agility too, my Greyhound was part of the Greyt Expectations team of ex-racers that qualified for the Crufts Obreedience final. My main activity now is showing my Greyhounds at KC shows in racing and breed classes, my current girl is the UK’s second highest placed racing dog in 2024 Kennel Club competitions.
Tellington TTouch is an integral part of my training of my own and all clients’ dogs, I occasionally run Workshops and we have TTouch sessions in class especially around firework time to help dogs and owners relax their dogs. My dogs are always older rescue dogs usually over 5 years old, the lurchers usually arrive labelled dog aggressive and one of my current Greyhounds also came with an ASBO warning- I use TTouch to teach them to reduce arousal and listen to me, to give them confidence so they can become better socialised especially with their new home and environments. I find TTouch enhances positive reward-based training making it easier for the dog to understand, focus and follow training whilst remaining happy and relaxed so the training is retained better and quicker by the dogs. I use TTouch in the show ring to keep my dog relaxed and ensure they move to the best of their ability, as my dogs grow older I also use TTouch to help keep them supple and fit and maintain their good health.
I work around the West Midlands usually though am happy to travel reasonable distances for clients or Workshops.
