Hi, I’m Katharine, and I am the owner and Canine Wellness Trainer at Canine Support. I cover Somerset and Devon for in-person training sessions but also have a selection of online courses, including Introduction to TTouch and Body Work for Dogs and their Guardians, Fear of Fireworks and Happy Muzzle Dog.
With a deep love for animals, I am dedicated to providing compassionate and effective support to dogs and their guardians.
I am a Canine Wellness Trainer formed from a unique blend of both Tellington TTouch and Trauma Informed Dog Practitioner qualifications.
As a Trauma-Informed Dog Practitioner, I focus on the dog as a whole, considering their physical, mental, and emotional well-being rather than solely focusing on their behaviour. This holistic approach aligns perfectly with the Tellington TTouch philosophy, which also emphasises the mind-body connection in dogs.
I have years of experience working with dogs and am passionate about helping owners build strong, fulfilling relationships with their canine companions. I share my life with Remi, a Bullmastiff and Chloe, a Spanish mixed-breed rescue, but I enjoy working with dogs of all shapes, sizes, ages and backgrounds.
It’s not just about training your dog. My training style is to give you the skills you need to understand your dog in order to effectively communicate with each other, so you can both feel confident and safe. By learning these skills in a low-stress environment, you will develop an unbelievable bond with your dog. With this new level of trust, together, you can then begin to positively associate with the things your dog had previously found difficult. Whether that is reacting to dogs, people, moving objects, noise sensitivity, unsure of touch, issues from Lockdown and so on.
You can follow me on Facebook, and Instagram or please feel free to take a look at my Free Resources page HERE.
I’ve always been a massive animal lover, with numerous pets as a child and at 13 years old, I finally got my first dog, a 6-month-old rescue called Bonnie and have not been without a dog since. I have a BSc Degree in Exercise and Sports Science, and after a career in the fitness industry, I became a Police Officer.
In 2015 my TTouch journey began, initially just to help my own dogs, Jinx and Keto, but it was so amazing I was hooked. You can read how TTouch has helped my own dogs HERE. I have been trained by Robyn Hood (sister to Linda Tellington-Jones), Sarah Fisher (founder of Animal Centred Education and author of numerous books), Marie Miller and Lucie Leclerc.
I have studied with the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers (IMDT) and have completed; a 2-day Career as a Dog Trainer, Perfect Puppy Foundation, Canine Body Language, Canine Aggression and Rehab, The Exercises with Steve Mann himself and also a 6-month course in Learning, Motivation and Reinforcement – Understanding and Working with Canine Behaviour. I am a Your End of the Lead Coach after studying and working with Janet Finlay at the Canine Confidence Academy (author of Your End of the Lead). I have also completed the Aggression in Dogs Master Course with Michael Shikashio. I am the proud sponsor of the Yellow Dog Project and I am a member of the Initiative for Force Free Dog Training. I am also a Trauma Informed Practitioner with Dr Holly Tett of Paws Up Dogs and Canine Trauma and Rescue Expert with Canine Principles.
All my careers have been people centred, focused on helping people somehow. Although dog training is about training your dog, I know how important it is for the dog guardian to feel confident and relaxed as well. It can be very stressful to own a reactive dog, a nervous dog, or one that is afraid of fireworks, the vets, etc, and my aim is to improve your confidence with your dog and help you find ways to destress together.
My goal is to make all dogs and their guardians feel happy, so let me know how I can support you today by dropping me a message at [email protected], I look forward to hearing from you.
Katharine xx
